Uniform Assistance
The Uniform and Footwear Assistance Programme provides financial assistance to persons having hardship or insufficient income to provide uniform and footwear to school-aged children.
This programme is also available to families who have been impacted by a hurricane, flooding caused by rain storm or by fire.
This Programme provides Gift Cards (Bank of The Bahamas or Digital Wallet Vendor) that are redeemable at selected Uniform and Footwear Vendors that are preapproved by the Department of Social Services.
Applications for this service can ONLY be made during the last week of June to the third week of September for the new academic year.
Applications can ONLY be made ONCE in the specified period for the new academic year.
TO APPLY
- The applicant must be earning minimum wage or lower.
- Be a Bahamian citizen or Bahamian Permanent Resident
- Be over the age of 18
- Be the Head of the Household
- Submit Pay Slip or Job letter or Termination Letter
- Valid Passport of Head of Household and each adult household member
- Valid NIB smart card of Head of Household and each adult household member
- Recent Report Card of students for whom the application is made
- Scholarship Letter for private schools of students for whom the application is made
- Birth certificate/Affidavit and Valid Passport of child or children under the age of eighteen (18) and Proof of Guardianship
- Valid NIB smart card for each child and children under the age of eighteen (18)
- May need a Marriage Certificate, Divorce decree or legal separation documents to verify status
- Doctor’s letter, if unable to work due to ill health
- If you have been impacted by a fire, natural disaster, or by Covid-19 pandemic, you are eligible to apply for Uniform Disaster Assistance. If this is your situation, you will need to provide a Police Report on fire, or letter from employer
